A note of caution, however-the author's previous books on audible, from The Brotherhood of the Conch, are aimed at upper elementary or middle school aged children. Her story is compelling, however, and the reader does a wonderful job, using subtle changes in her voice and accent to characterize the many different people in the story. You will not always like or sympathize with Draupadi-she is a pampered, self-centered, vindictive woman who doesn't appreciate what she has until it is gone. Upon doing a little internet searching, I discovered that Palace of Illusions is actually a re-telling of the Hindu epic, the Mahabharata, told from the point of view of Draupadi, the main female character. Imagine my surprise when I started seeing the names of characters from Palace of Illusions in the actual book I was reading. I didn't realize until I was part of the way through this listen that it was anything more than a work of fiction. ![]() 5/9/2023 0 Comments Blood Cross by Faith Hunter![]() ![]() And in the never-before-published “Bound No More,” Jane welcomes a visit from Molly and her daughter, Angie, who is about to prove she’s the most powerful witch in Everhart history.įrom the Big Easy to the bad bayou, from the open road to a vampire’s lair-with Jane Yellowrock, it’s always a given: have stakes, will travel. ![]() In the brand-new “Cat Fight,” the witches and vampires of Bayou, Oiseau, are at war over a magical talisman-and Jane must figure out how to keep the mysterious artifact out of the covetous hands of the Master of New Orleans. To this day, a small part of me wishes to be this masked hero by night and some Mediterranean gentleman by day, but obviously I can’t, so I have to make do with the series, my imagination, and this wonderful book by Isabel Allende. I carved Z’s into walls, I ran around in a mask and I even tried to get my horse to prance, without much success. The point I’m getting at, is that I watched the reruns of Zorro, the clumsy series from the fifties, and therefore I played I was Zorro a lot when I was little.
